Date a Girl Who Reads

I had to share this.  If you've already read this, I'm sure you won't mind reading it again.

                        the Good Life, April 2011

"Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.
Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.
She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.
Buy her another cup of coffee.
Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’sUlysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.
It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books ... for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.
She has to give it a shot somehow.
Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.
Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.
Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.
If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.
You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.
You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Asian, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snoww off your boots.
Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.
Or better yet, date a girl who writes."

Embrace the Unexpected Surprise

I've been in a fog all day long.  That's what I get for staying up way past my bedtime.  I like sleeping.  I don't have much to say today due to said sleep deprivation.  Actually, I'm feeling a little better right now.  Thank you, Coffee.  Coffee at 9pm.  We'll see how this goes.

Now I don't know about you, but I love musicals.  Enjoy this grocery store musical.  I could've used something like this to brighten my day.  We should totally do this.  Who's with me?  No one?  I thought so. Watching people's reactions to unexpected surprises is priceless!

I would've liked to stumble across this too.

What would you do if you came across a strange black box with a little red button?  So mysterious!  Ooh!

Be Who You Are And Say What You Feel

I love a good quote.  I love typography.  I love typography with a quote and pretty picture.

As much as I love me some quotes, I cannot for the life of me ever remember them.  You know those people who can quote classic movie lines and can go for hours?  I'm not one of those people.  Although, I don't rewatch movies very often either.  That is why if I see a good quote I might be rushing to put it on this blog before I forget.  This is in hopes that possibly through writing about it, I will remember.

You know those getting to know you questions that occur sometimes at work related functions or Pamper Chef parties?  Everyone go around the room and tell us your name and a little bit about yourself.  Or if your life were a movie what genre would it be and what movie star would play you in the movie of your life?  For one, who comes up with these questions?  Two, does anyone else abhor these little activities as much as I do?  I know it's coming and I know I have no possible answer for this question.  Everyone else is coming up with all these clever, witty answers and I've got nothing.  I need to get my hands on a list of these questions and come up with something good that I can use over and over again.  Sometimes I hate me!

 Moving on...

I liked this quote, because it got me thinking about how much I bite my tongue or do not say how I really feel about things in order to avoid confrontation, offending anyone, hurting peoples feelings, etc.  I catch on pretty quick as to what I can and cannot talk about with whoever I am with at the moment.  It would be nice to live in a world where we could all speak with no inhibitions and it not affect any of our relationships or reputations.

How many people truly know who you really are?  It's amazing when you find those few friends who you can truly be yourself around.  The type of friends who tell you like it is and you do the same.  You know that whatever they might do and say doesn't even matter because you know they care about you this much.  My arms are stretched out showing how much.  Even though you can't see me, you get the idea.  It only makes your friendship stronger.  Even on this blog, I watch what I write about and though I carefully think before I type I have already had some minor repercussions.  To that I say, read the above quote.  Those who mind don't matter.  I like it!

Guilty Pleasure: Korean Dramas

While we were over in Malaysia, we didn't have a TV or Internet.  Can you imagine?  What would we do with all that free time?  We did have our computer, but we didn't bring any DVDs with us.  I don't know what we were thinking!  We played a lot of cards.  We rotated between Big Two (a card game we were taught over there), Duker (or what everyone else seems to call Nertz. It's Duker, okay?), and Spades.  We played almost every night and pretty much every other opportunity we had.  We had many.  It is amazing when you are not working, you get everything done and then what do you do?  Watch TV.  Erm, no TV.  Surf the Internet.  Nope.  What a predicament!  Anyone like playing cards as much as we do, because since we've been back there has been a huge lack of card playing in our lives and way more TV and Internet usage.  No bueno.

Now, I know you are thinking Taylor, get to the point already.  Have you not gotten used to how my brain works and these ramblings that eventually get us to the point, if I ever had one in the first place.  While we were in Malaysia, we were introduced to the Korean Drama.  These are Korea's version of television shows.  Some friends gave us some DVDs and we pretty much devoured those, because we were DVD deprived by this point.

I'm not speaking for all Korean Dramas, because I only watched a couple, but the ones I watched are adorable!  There seem to be a couple genres, melodramatic and somber or cheesy adorable cutesy *enter all other words of this type you can think of*.  I have watched the latter.  You can not help but be happy watching these.  They are like happy pills for all you sad pandas everywhere.  They are also extremely innocent and wholesome.  It was so refreshing.  It's a huge deal if the main characters hug!  How precious!

Let me just warn you, do not watch a Korean Drama if you are looking for serious acting.  They tend to be over dramatic and exaggerate their expressions in everything they do.  Again, so cute!  We watched My Girl, which I think is my favorite.  Others we watched were Boys Over Flowers (what does that even mean?), Beethoven Virus, Full House.

Are you ready for the Korean Drama?  I don't know if you can handle the sugary sweet cheesy goodness.  Did I mention cute?!  Check out a little bit of this clip from My Girl.  Now I want to go watch it again!  I know, I'm pathetic.

Etsy Loving

A little Etsy loving for your Monday.  Do you think these are as adorable as I do or am I just 24 going on 90?  I love Etsy for inspiration for all things crafty.

So true!  We are all weird.

Now excuse me, I'm off to have some tea with biscuits, wrap myself in a cozy blanket, snuggle up with my cats and watch Lawrence Welk while doing my needlepoint.  Well, everything but the Lawrence Welk part and the cats.

I Haven't Posted In Awhile... And Now It's Friday!

We haven't had TV channels coming into our house for a great long while now.  I liked this, because I would tell people we don't have cable and then they would be left wondering what we did with all that non tv watching time and I hate commercials.  We do watch everything live streaming on our computer and also have Netflix, so there is definitely still a lot of time wasting going on.

We just got an antennae so that we could get the basic channels, mostly for the news, because it's good to know what's going on in the world occasionally.  Instead of bettering ourselves and increasing our knowledge of the world's events, we ended up watching a late night talk show the other night.  They had this little girl supposedly an internet sensation as a guest on the show.  Her name is Rebecca Black.  She has this little gem of a song going round the interwebs.  I hate television for making me look up this youtube video.  Ahh, so obnoxious!  If you clicked on that link, don't hate me!  You can only blame yourself.

If you did in fact click on the link, I know I would have, you probably now have that song running through your head on this beautiful Friday.  I'll share a little song that gets stuck in my head, but that you will not HATE with all your being, in fact you will love it.  At least I do.

P.S.  Did everyone else just love The Office Proposal this week?  Love!  Why oh why do they make us wait so long in between episodes though?  Next week is another rerun.  Boo.

Little Thank You Notes

Dear Work,
Thank you for making me appreciate days off.

Dear Seventy Degree Weather,
Thank you for coming back.  I thought you were gone forever or at least for six months until next winter.  You could stick around for another few months if you'd please.

Dear Patterns,
Thank you, Patterns, for being so easy to mix and match making my outfit completely intentionally random.  I notice some people looking at me with a slight perplexed expression on their faces as if to say does she know that that does not match at all?  Yes, I do in fact.  I cannot help that your matching pastels of an outfit makes me want to vomit.  Next time pass on the lime green shoes.

Dear Green Tea,
Thank you for being delicious!  You have never failed me.  Winning the Starbucks Lottery with the prize of a free drink led me to you yesterday, Green Tea Frappuccino.  Today was Iced Green Tea Chai.  Tea has been knocking my socks off and I don't know why I ever did not like you!  I feel like a grown up in the taste buds department.  There is still no hope for liking raw Tomatoes though, so I guess I'm not so grown up after all.

Dear Wind,
Thank you for helping me to...

Dear Auto Correct,
You are so dumb sometimes.  I don't know why you keep changing Syd to STD.  Don't you know, that is not nice.  Also, you changed let's go thrifting to let's go thrusting the other day.  Thanks for giving me some good unexpected laughs!

Dear Pay Day,
I wish there was no such thing as money.  Since it does unfortunately exist, I like to have a little bit here and there.  Thank you, Pay Day.  I shall keep you.

Dear Charlie's,
Thank you making me actually like the name Charlie.  But only if you are British and are an adorable baby or hilariously awkward and making fun of Justin Bieber with a British accent.

Love, Taylor

The Weekend Was...

A little bit of this...

I'll let you in on a little secret.  We made these necklaces along with the mustache necklaces with shrink-a-doo plastic.  We saw some mustache necklaces online on Etsy and thought hey we could make those.  We went looking for the shrinking plastic goods at some of the crafts store.  Couldn't find it anywhere.  Decided to look in our garage.  We had a whole butt load of it.  It's seriously like our own little craft store out there.  It's all left overs from our garage sale.  People who didn't buy our shrink-a-doo stuff, I'm sure you are seriously regretting that decision right about now.  My bow looks a little bit like an elephant but not really.  Either way, I like it.

And a little bit of that...

Not really.  We did have a teach Taylor and Sydney how to dance to Spanish music party.  We never learned the steps before since we are white and from Wisconsin.  Come on, not too much opportunity up there.  When we moved down to Tucson, we didn't know how to pronounce any of the street names.  Cally?? La Canada (like the country)??  Saturday night, we learned the basic steps with the help of some friends.  See, we are going to a wedding coming up and instead of just sitting out all the Spanish dancing, which we have done in the past waiting for some other music to come on which never does, we should try to enjoy ourselves.  Although, I can count on my hand how many times I've been asked to dance.  Maybe it is that minor detail of being taller than the majority of people around here.  We'll see how that goes.  =)  The wedding is in California.  We're going to take a few days after and hang out in LA area.  Anyone have suggestions on must see spots or eats?

And also managed to score this...

Originally from Anthro found at Buffalo Exchange.
Sydney's size.  You can bet your bottom dollar that we swiped that thing right off the mannequin in the window display.
We left that mannequin looking quite indecent.  Poor thing.

And to top it all off...

Dinner at Grandma's house.  Steak, sweet potatoes, salad, and wine.  Not too shabby.  We did some girly chatting and Lifetime movie watching (it wasn't too terrible).

I'll just leave you with some words of wisdom...

Because cheese makes everything better!

That was our little weekend.  How was yours?

Home Schooled

Let me tell you a little story.  Once we were at dinner with some of my parents childhood friends.  For some reason, we had to have separate tables where I think Sydney and I were with some others who knew us as kids but didn't know us as adults.  We were having some nice conversation.

When out of nowhere one of them said to us, "You guys are so normal.  I mean you can actually carry on a conversation."  He sounded like he was in shock.

Umm, thank you, I guess.

"I mean every other homeschooler I've met is socially awkward and seems like they can't get on in the world.  You were home schooled??"

Ha Ha  Kicking homeschooler stereotypes one normal conversation at a time. That's how we do.

Yes, we were home schooled.  Gasp. I'm not just talking High School.  I'm talking K-12.  Never experienced those school hallways or musky classrooms.  I have no idea if they are musky, since I've never been in one.  They just look like they would be and maybe a little smelly depending on what grade you are in with some of those kids who haven't been taught what deodorant is yet.  But what do I know, really?  All I know about it is from movies and books.  I interpreted in the schools for a brief time period.  I got an idea of what it was all about.  I wasn't impressed.

Our mom was our teacher.  You know what?  She was pretty good.  We'll keep her.  We could sleep in and wear our pajamas all day if we really wanted to.  We never had to do schoolwork all day, because we worked at our own pace and didn't have to waste anytime waiting on other students.  We could take off days we wanted to do something fun.  It was pretty sweet.

I think we did miss out on a few things.  For example, we are hopeless at sports because we never played.  I just don't even know how to play some sports.  My dad never was a sports guy either.  Sports are not our friend.  Maybe if we were taught by some willing volunteers and practiced a lot.  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?

I think we missed out on some science experiments and school projects that might have been interesting, but I never really felt deprived.  We weren't completely isolated.  We had friends.  We had different extra-curricular activities we were involved in, such as musical instruments, ice skating lessons, plays we put on with friends, etc.

Yet, homeschooling gets such a bad wrap from all the other homeschoolers who are socially inept and cannot carry on a conversation with other human beings except for their mommies.  As well as, the
homeschoolers that don't graduate.  Then there are the overachiever homeschoolers whose test scores skyrocket above all the rest.  I don't know what our parents did right that made us turn out halfway normal and well adjusted.  If you could call us normal!

Homeschoolers?

I think they are home schooled.
Photos from Awkwardfamilyphotos.com.  Check it out.  You might be there for awhile!

Have you seen the documentary Waiting For Superman?  It's about the school systems in the US and it left me depressed, yet thankful that my parents decided to go the home school route.  It was a good informative movie and I would suggest you all watch it and start homeschooling your kids, if you have kids, immediately.  Nah, I know not everyone can do it.  If you can though, well just watch the film and you decide.

If we do something kind of dumb, hey we were home schooled.  If we do something really genius and innovative, hey we were home schooled.  It's a win win, I'm telling you.  Anyway, it worked okay for us and I know a bunch of others that are pretty cool too.

Live The Language!

I would like to learn another spoken language someday.  I don't know if I would ever be able to do it just from Rosetta Stone.  I think I would need to be in another country immersed in the language and culture with native speakers to get anywhere.  This video is lovely!  Now I want to go to Paris!  Like I didn't before, right?

On the other end of the spectrum, but still French and fantastic, this video...

Dos & Don'ts

Do get out once and awhile.  Even though, it's heating up.  It will only get worse.
Don't go out in a car that does not have Air Conditioning.  I was stuck in a car of this kind Friday morning and almost died.  Might be a slight exaggeration, but I almost die when sweat starts dripping down my legs.  Not cool.

Do eat pizza and get yourself some ice cream to treat yourself.  Haagen Daaz Chocolate Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Mint.  Don't mind if I do.
Don't eat this combo very often. Your stomach will thank you.  Ugh.  Maybe I had a little too much.

Do get a shopping cart or basket on your next trip to the grocery store to buy said ice cream.
So that you don't run into someone in the frozen food aisle juggling four pints of ice cream leaning tower of pisa style.
Do have no shame buying these four pints of ice cream.
Don't make comments to strangers in line such as, "You know that will make you fat."  Rude.

Do Red Box movie nights.
Don't rent movies that are on your Netflix Instant Streaming Queue.  Doh!

Do go out for lunch.
Don't go to lunch in the mall.  Everything's kind of sticky, like that time I went to Sizzler.  Never again!

Do prepare your talk ahead of time, instead of procrastinating like me.  It happened again.
Don't work Friday and Sunday nights.  I was trying to think what I did this weekend.  Oh yeah, I worked.  Not fun.

Internet Lurker

Time for another travel story.  It's been awhile.  Like a week.  Not long enough for you?  Too bad.  You see, my life on a daily basis is pretty dull and uneventful.  I have to resort to travel stories, because they are entertaining.  Not just my travel stories, but all travel stories.  If you've got any good ones.  Tales of the strange or just plain psychotic.  Do share.  I need something to entertain me since Thursday night television has been on hiatus for two weeks.  I don't know what to do with myself!

Story time.  Makes me think of library story times.  Everyone scoot in on the floor crossed legged.  There will not be any cut out paper props or talking puppet animals.  Sorry to disappoint.

We were in the Bangkok, Thailand airport waiting to catch our flight back to Malaysia.

When we were in Asia, we were without access of the interwebs.  It wasn't too bad because over there. there are wifi hotspots in most areas.  Normally we had our laptop or ipod touch with us and could just hook up to the wifi, download emails, and be on our merry way in a few minutes.

In Thailand, we didn't bring our laptop and I forgot the ipod touch at home.  That was a brief sad moment, because I mean, come on, we were going to Thailand.  We could live without the ipod.  On the island, Koh Samui, we tried to find an internet cafe near our bungalow.  We walked down the road for awhile and came upon one.  After emailing family to say we were still alive and well, we went to pay our dues and realized we didn't have any money.  I do not know how this happened.  So we tried our best to ask in gestures where the nearest atm was.  It seemed to be down the road.  I said I would stay there until Sydney and our friend went and got the money to pay them.  They started walking and it was far, all the way around the bend until I couldn't see them anymore.  That's when I felt the money in my pocket.  Yes.  That's right.

This is what happens when you don't have cell phones.  They walked twice as far and I waited twice as long as necessary.  While I was waiting there, the owners baby was brought out from next door.  Adorable.  I started making silly faces as any normal person does when a baby is present.  By the time, Syd and Alayna came back.  I had my shoes off, holding the baby, and they said I pretty much looked like I was part of their family.  Ha.  Ahh, Thailand.

This baby was found in another internet spot.  The mother just left her sleeping there with us surfing the web.  I don't know where the mother went.  She was gone for a long time.  Maybe she went and got a Thai massage.  Ooh customers = babysitters.

Back to the airport.  We were using the computers with free wifi available at the terminal.  Seriously, why don't any of our airports have this kind of set up?  We were replying to some pretty personal emails.  This guy comes up and stands behind Alayna.  He was looking over her shoulder.

"You spelled Saturday wrong," He said to her.

We all kind of looked at each other in disbelief.  I mean if you are going to read someone's personal emails and be a total creeper, normally you try to be somewhat incognito, right?  Not this guy.  He just straight out got all spell check on her.

She gave him a dirty look and he kind of walked away for about two minutes.

"I told you, you spelled Saturday wrong."  This guy would not give up and did he think it was totally normal to be correcting someone on an email that was not meant for him to be reading in the first place?

So she started typing.  Stop reading my email, you freak!  He jumped back appalled that someone would think he was a creep for just trying to be her personal middle aged spellchecker.  Ok, that didn't happen.  But wouldn't that have been pretty great if it did?  We always think of better responses after the fact, but our personal space was feeling violated right then so our mind was on other things.

In actuality, she just glared at him and exclaimed, "I know I spelled Saturday wrong!  Were you seriously reading over my shoulder just now?"

He stepped back mumbling something about how this is an open space.

And we've been laughing at his expense ever since.

The End.

Who am I kidding?  This is not nearly as funny as The Office.  I tried.  Gotta give me that.

Hammock Time

Today, I wished I had a hammock.  Wouldn't it have been the perfect 70 degree, breezy day to relax the afternoon away in a hammock.  Is there anything better?  I have such fond memories of hanging out in our hammock with my sister and friends giggling over our little girl talk.  That was the life!
It kind of feels like another life altogether, now after moving across country and with all these new friends that didn't know us as those little girls.  We haven't kept in touch with most of the people that we used to know back then, due to growing up and growing apart.  Only a few stood the test of time and distance.  Hey, you know that you are loved.   And to all my new friends, here you might find out some things about that little girl and her love of hammocks among other silly things.

This is a pretty accurate depiction of what our old hammock looked like swinging between two huge oak trees.

If you have a hammock, can I come over and hang?
Wouldn't that be creepy if someone was just chilling in your hammock one day?
Hi.  How you doing?
That creeper might just be me.

Some Tuesday Loving

Tuesdays.  What are they good for?  Absolutely nothing.
Nah.  Tuesday has treated us well.
We were all off work and had nowhere to be.
It turned into a bit of a spa day.

Hair cut.

Nails done.  Naked toenails creep me out.  Meaning no nail polish.  Had to take care of that little situation.  Also, we ran to Walgreens and picked up these new Sally Hansen's Salon Effects.  Sydney got to try it because she has a week before she joins me working regularly interpreting.  I didn't, since I'm back to work tomorrow.  What a waste to put them on just to take them off.  Sigh.  They turned out pretty cute, don't you think?

Waxed - We like inflicting pain on ourselves and we don't like hair.

Starbucks came out with these new petit morsels of tastiness.  Above the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie.  Not bad for a buck and some change.  We also tried the Peanut Butter Chocolate Mini Cupcake.
Heads up on scoring these free, Thursday-Saturday afternoons this week from 2-5pm.  With a drink purchase.  Of course, they always get you with the fine print.  Oh I need to get a drink to get one of these free.  Really, if you just bought one of these without the spendy drink it would be cheaper.  If you're already buying the drink though, everyone likes a free little treat!

Spa day with treats.  Tuesday's not so bad.

Travelogues in Pictures

I love this video.  4,000 pictures in 2 minutes.  Exquisite sensory overload.  Morocco and Spain are definitely on my wanderlust list!

Can you imagine doing something like walking across China?  We should all take at least one life changing trip in our lifetime.  I think this is pretty great.  I love how the people come and go.  Isn't it precious how sad he is when the girl leaves?  Poor scraggly bearded guy!

Also, if you have an iPhone or Droid and don't have Words for Friends.  Get it!  If you already have it, let's play.  I'm Taylor.ash.  Is it sad that we were all sitting in the same room playing multiple games with each other.  We should have just brought out the actual Scrabble board.  How retro!  Ha.
I might have a small addiction.
It started yesterday.

Not Another Jumping Picture

Everyone loves a good jumping picture now and then.  Emphasis on now and then.  Normally ours come out very comical since the timing is always off and getting really nice, pretty expressions while jumping is not an easy feat.  It takes a good 10 jumps before we can get everyone in the air and sometimes it doesn't work at all.  Besides the fact that we have to bear the humiliation of all passersby staring and laughing at the crazy jumpers.  Not that people staring and laughing ever bothered anyone.

I stumbled upon these photos last week and had to share.  Taken by Natsumi, a girl who takes on Tokyo everyday with her camera and leg muscles ready for a good jump.  Captivating!  She looks so perfectly natural.  I'm impressed.  This is not just your average jumping picture.

What Are You Waiting For?

'
{Illustration by the heads of state}

You know those days, when your timing is just never quite right?  Things finished early and I was waiting to meet up with my sister.  Later in the day, I had to drive my sister to an appointment and wait for her there.  We were expecting it to be maybe 30 minutes, but it turned into an hour and a half of waiting.  Since I had no idea how long it would be, I didn't want to take off to go somewhere and then leave her waiting for me to come back.  So I waited.

Of course, I didn't have a book.  I was stuck in a car with only the radio to keep me company.  No good songs played on the radio only the never ending loop of top 40 songs.  I surfed the web for awhile, but there was nothing to look at.  It was too hot for my liking yesterday.  Syd, you really have to learn how to drive a manual car.  I like the breeze and the sound of the leaves rustling in the tree.  Are you as bored as I was?

I was entertained for a moment by a couple office workers sharing some office gossip in the parking lot.  It's not my fault they were talking really loud and I was only sitting a few feet away with my windows open.  No, don't go.  Can't you see I'm bored over here?  I'm not necessarily nosy, just entertained by people in general.  That's why I can't pay attention to anything when I'm at a coffee shop trying to study. Too much going on.  Interesting people coming in and out.  If I see someone, completely engrossed in a book in a public place, I find them all the more intriguing.  I wish I had that concentration.  What book are they reading?  See instead of focusing on my work, I'm thinking about this other person focusing on their work.  I get distracted easily.  Gah!

Then, because that appointment went longer than expected, we didn't have time to go home before we met our friend at a restaurant downtown.  If we went straight there we would be there early, therefore more waiting.  We didn't have anywhere else to go in the meantime and if we went somewhere then we would probably be late.  I hate those extra 15 minutes.  What do you do with 15 minutes?

At the restaurant we waited for our waitress for an unreasonable amount of time.  Waited for our drinks, waited to order, waited... well you get the picture.  We aren't in Italy where they savor that long evening meal.  It's just in our social norms I suppose to expect a certain amount of attentiveness.  Oh well.  The conversation and ice cream were worth it.

The day ended on a high note with some tea and A Little Princess.  Mmm good!

I'm not good with waiting.  I don't know what to do with myself if there is not much going on.  I need to work on being a more contemplative person, I guess.  One who can be content with just sitting, alone with their thoughts.  Can one learn this?

Sidenote: That quote up there.  I like.  Don't you think that makes a great ice breaker question.  What are you most passionate about at this moment?  If someone is passionate about something doesn't their whole demeanor change when they talk about it.  They could go on forever and we would all want to hear about it, because we can see it's that important to them.  Or they might not have an answer to that question.  I feel sorry for those that don't.  There is still time to figure it out.  Get on that.

Waiting for all these little things isn't fun, just like waiting in life.  You will drive yourself crazy waiting for things to happen.  Sometimes you have to just jump and make things happen.  Easier said than done.  I'm still working on it.

What are you waiting for?

Awkward is...

Leaving answering machine messages.  As soon as that beep goes off, my brain goes dead like Charlie Sheen's liver.  Is anybody else sick of hearing about that guy?  Why did I call again?  Certainly not to talk about Charlie Sheen.  Although, he is awkard.  I usually will sputter out some unintelligible sentences and hang up ashamed.  If I ever manage to leave a good answering machine message, it shall be a good day in history.

Folding a fitted sheet.

Me. Cooking.  Pretty much, yeah.  Just not my thing.  I've always been more of a baker.  Although, I can make a pretty mean breakfast.  Someday I might learn to enjoy cooking.  But who doesn't love breakfast for dinner every now and then.

The salesguy when I bought my Tom's.  He said that the shoes looked great on me.  I think it would be hard for anyone to not look good in canvas slip-ons.  He also asked me if I had heard of the Muse.  And proceeded to tell me his band sounded just like them, staring at me to get my reaction.  Oh-kay.

The Old Nepalese Grandma.  As she was leaving our little baby shower this past weekend, she slapped one guy on the face twice which she has done to me in the past.  I have no idea why we get this sort of reaction from her.  But it seems like it's because she likes us.  Then she whacked another guy's butt as she was walking out the door.  Go, Grandma!  You can get away with it now, because you are old and have no teeth.  Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Harem pants.  My sister and her friend used to pretend they were Jasmine and Aladdin.  My sister had short hair at the time and so she was always Aladdin.  It would have been appropriate for them to wear these then.  That would pretty much be the only time and it would still be awkward.

When you and another person are reaching a door at the exact same time.  You both kind of hang back trying to let the other person go through first.  Then since you are both hanging back, you both start going for the door again.  Awkward.

Trying to make conversation with painfully shy and/or awkward people.  I try to avoid it at all costs, but sometimes it cannot be helped.  I am doing all I can asking questions and they give me one word answers.  You're killing me here!

Asking someone, "How are you?"  And them replying, "I'm alive."  Well, I'm glad you are alive so we can have this awkward interchange.  It's been swell.

The lady breaking out in a jig at the bus stop.  You made me smile on my way home from work at 11pm.  Thanks.

Anyone riding a Segway.

How many hours I've probably spent playing Angry Birds.  I don't even want to know.  Gotta get those mustachioed smirking pigs!  They are evil.  Check out this comic.

Just to name a few.

Currently Playing...

I love it when the stringed instruments come in.  Ahh, music to my ears... wait.

And maybe a little bit of this...
It's so sweet!

Because I'm a nerd and this makes me happy.

Did you know that you can buy music on Amazon?  iTunes is being a butt and raised their prices.  $1.29 per song.  What do I look like?  Steve Jobs?  I have found Amazon to be cheaper.  Would you rather pay $13 for the new Lykke Li album or $8 at Amazon?  I could go to the thrift store on that kind of savings or Starbucks is always good too.  Yeppers.
