The Verdict Is In

The gem show is here once again.  I'm sure it is the highlight of the year for some serious jewelers, merchants, and beadsters.  The city's economy is booming for a couple weeks.  I always wonder how some of these hotels stay in business.  For us commoners, it means more traffic.  Could it get any worse in this big city with no freeways?  As if we didn't waste enough of our lives in a car, let's tack on an extra 15 minutes trying to get through each stop light.  Lovely.  It also means, in general, things are more crowded.  For example, Restaurants have longer waits due to all these gem showers.  Can you tell I don't like waiting?

We went to the gem show the other day.  It's nice to get out of the car and walk around a bit.  You never know what "gems" you might find, if you will.  What you will find are a lot of rocks, rocks, and more rocks.  There are also mountains of cheap beads thrown into the mix.  You might even find cell phone charms made out of, you guessed it, beads.  I don't know who in the world buys those, but obviously there are some customers or they would stop making them, right?  In Malaysia, a bunch of people had these hanging off their cell phones, which amused me immensely.  Then there is booth after booth of turquoise southwestern style jewelry.  It's just not my thing.  Out of everything we looked at we did manage to find a few unique pieces.

Exhibit A: Model Syd

Can you guess what we bought at the gem show?
Also, Syd pointed out that I always like to cut her head out of the picture.
Point taken.

Exhibit B: Model Tay

Tibetan scarf made with boiled wool which makes it softer and gives it a really nice texture.

Exhibit C: Model A Rock of Salt

Himalayan Salt to be exact.

This salt is actually my new deodorant block, just add water.  We'll see how it works.  Trying to get away from the deodorant otherwise known as Alzheimer's Friend.  We borrowed this eco-friendly beauty product book from the library.  It's pretty much telling us what we want to know and don't want to know,  how everything in our beauty makers are horrible for us.  It's nothing we didn't already know.  We have tried a whole lot of natural stuff before and still use some natural products.  I'm a girl that sweats though, so I haven't found a good natural deodorant.  Too much information?  I didn't think so.  What are your go-to natural products?

The Verdict: Gem show - nay with a bit of yay

I use tea tree oil for EVERYTHING (but it is NOT to be ingested).

Lindsay, I don't know you but hi! Can I just tell you that once one of my little cousins spilled my bottle of tea tree oil in my bathroom. Imagine that smell! Intense. For days.

Taylor, LOVE the scarf. I used to work at Grant & I-10. Gem show traffic nightmare! But I have never been to the gem show. Also, I buried my head in the sand about the healthiness of my beauty products but my goal is that with my ban on buying new beauty products, as I run out of my deathly but awesome chemicals I will switch over to more natural products.

Could this comment BE any longer?

@Lindsay - yes that is some good stuff. You speaking from experience.
@Megs - that plan just might work and also maybe you need to go down to the gem show and get yourself a pretty scarf. They had so many. I had a hard time deciding on just one!

Walnut oil(or any other natural oil I would imagine) doubles as eye makeup remover. I just tried it for the first time and it worked beautifully, even my waterproof mascara was gone in an instant!

Sydney- I really needed that tip! I am out of eye makeup remover.
